Visionary Spotlight: SHAMEK'O BARREN

Today, we introduce you to Shamek'o Barren!

Introduce yourself to the Visions of Greatness audience. My name is Shamek'o A. Barren and I am an Entrepreneur, Speaker, Author, and Mental Health Advocate. I am the founder of New Mindz Mentorship Program established in 2017. New Mindz is a mentorship program that is focused on Enhancing, Educating, and Empowering the lives of young girls through workshops, group mentoring, and social entrepreneurship . I am also the Author of "The Lemon Spirit: Living, Coping, and Overcoming Anxiety and Queen Energy: Teens, Tweens, and Self-Esteem Journal.

Who or what inspired you to pursue entrepreneurship? The first thought of a mentoring program came to me back in 2006. I was reflecting on what had the biggest impact on me growing up. The Boys and Girls Club in Crichton (Kiwanis Branch) had a positive influence on my sister and I. I wanted to create something similar but with a focus more on personal and social development. I launched in 2017 and hadn't looked back. My mentorship has opened up a variety of opportunities in my life.

Tell the Visions of Greatness audience more about your products/services. Signature Workshops and Expertise: Confidence Camp, The Confidence Incubator, B. A. D. Girls Academy, She's a A Mini Author-Writing Camp, Girl Talk. I also assist other women entrepreneurs who desire to write their own books and start a business.

What are the 3 most valuable lessons you have learned as an entrepreneur? 1. There are no failures, just learned lessons. 2. You have to continue to pivot and be open to change. Be open to try new things and don't be afraid to ask for help. 3. Entrepreneurship requires you to be uncomfortable. You will never grow staying in the same place. Fear will come up, but you must keep moving.

Why is mental health important for entrepreneurs? Mental Health is important for entrepreneurs because it affects your overall well-being. Poor mental health in business can drain you of your energy and passion. What started out as something rewarding, can easily become something you hate. If you hate what you do, then why bother doing it.

How do you overcome adversity in your life and business? I overcome adversity in my life and business by going back to the basics. I like to reevaluate my priorities and focus on the things I can control. When we reevaluate things, we can see what it is we need to change. Sometimes we don't change until we are forced to do so. Adversity is just growing pains on your way to your next destination.

Share with us one ingredient in your secret sauce for success. Consistency!! You have to be consistent. Kevin Hart had a quote he used whenever someone would ask him about his success. Kevin Hart would say "Everybody wanna be famous, don't nobody want to put the work in". I say the secret is work and consistency. Consistently evolving but consistent. What's your vision for 2023 and beyond? My vision is to expand my exposure and reach to create more change. I am strategizing on making connections and more purposeful collaborations.
