The George M. Jefferson Courage Award
Ms. Shanna A. Jefferson, daughter of the late George M. Jefferson, announces the 2020 recipients of The George M. Jefferson Courage Award.
George M. Jefferson was a Community Activist, Civil Rights Activist and Political Activist. He believed in justice and was always ready to fight for people who were unable to fight for themselves. He stood for what was right even if he had to stand alone.
The Courage Award is presented to a community member who embodies the spirit of courage in the face of adversity and makes selfless contributions to the community.
The 2020 George M. Jefferson Courage Award recipients are Mrs.Lillian C. Lawton of Allendale, SC and Representative Lonnie Hosey of Barnwell, SC.
As a retired educator, Mrs. Lillian C. Lawton has impacted the lives of many having served the students of SC for 35 years. Beyond the classroom, she has stood courageously as a pillar in the Allendale community including serving faithfully in her church. Lillian C. Lawton is the epitome of courage.
Lonnie Hosey is a lifelong servant and agent of change. For over 20 years, he has represented District 91 as a member of the South Carolina House of Representatives. Representative Hosey has exhibited courage in the face of adversity throughout his life. Mr. Hosey is the epitome of courage.
