Entrepreneurship Life: No Longer Compromising Our Mental for Money

So often we see the glitz of entrepreneurship but not the daily grind that it takes to get to the shine. My journey to success came by way of the struggle or as the young folks say “I got it out the mud”. Starting on this journey, I was the ultimate hustler—part of team “ I'm gon’ sleep when I die.” I would go to bed with my work and laptop on the side of me in bed about midnight and wake up at 4am and start the process all over again. A few years of this routine began to take a toll on me. As a Mental Health Therapist I was able to recognize the signs of my pending burnout prior to me crashing which unfortunately everyone is not able to recognize.

It came to a point where I was extremely short-fused, frustrated, and tired. After exploding for a minute, I began to self-assess. The self-assessment was that I was on the verge of burnout. I had to do something and do something quickly because I could not afford to burnout; my kids and elderly mom rely on me. I immediately researched self-care routines to start prioritizing taking care of me. I then dissolved the non profit and closed the catering business and focused 100% on one business that was aligned with my true passion and purpose. I then crafted a consistent, daily self-care routine that helps me to distress and regenerate everyday.

To everyone in this entrepreneurship space, remember you are the business. If you don’t take care of yourself both mentally and physically, the business will cease to exist. Develop and implement a consistent self-care routine, assuring you are refilled daily before taking care of everything and everyone else…self-care is not selfish it’s mandatory!!
